Quote of the day.
Thomas A. Edison - "Discontent is the first necessity of progress."

Challenging music.
It is a very rare occasion when a piece draws you in and reveals itself over repeated listens. This is one of those rare instances. To be honest - I have not even been able to listen to it once in its entirety. In any case, if you are alone in some far away place (the Dolomites come to mind -- Cortina d'Ampezzo especially) this is the soundtrack. _________________________________________________________________________________

Going back to Houston, gonna get me some pants.
Actually, that is a lyric from BECK - but this is a classic tune from Dean Martin. Again, it is critical that young creatives have a sense of history and appreciation of great performers of the past.

Planes Over My House delay.
Damn, we did not realize how difficult it was to photograph planes with a digital camera. I love my Leica D-Lux Digital but it is starting to show it's age. Slow. My 9 year old son Roman is photographing most of it which is good because I would probably throw the camera in the pool at this point.
To be honest, it would be much easier to photograph while at JFK, LAX or SFO - but that kind of defeats the purpose. You will understand why when I post it.
Anyway, the first installment is this week. Maybe. And I think it is time to move on to a Nikon D-series. I just find it really hard to move away from my lovely and well branded Leica.

Fat corner quote of the day.
From my favorite conceptual artist - the late Joseph Beuys:

"I wished to go completely outside and to make a symbolic start for my enterprise of regenerating the life of humankind within the body of society and to prepare a positive future in this context. "

We know something you don't know.
Blog.
You may be wondering why recently I am posting music and video and random shit. Well, there are a few reasons:
1.) It is my blog, and I can post whatever I want ;-)
2.) We are starting on some large assignments soon, and we are working on internal projects (like new OSNOVA website)....so I am procrastinating as I find motivation difficult in 100ºF (39ºC) temperatures. I much prefer the beach and my pool.
3.) Most importantly, this is a blog about seeing all of the world around you. Many young creatives come here to see what we are working on (which I post on occasion) - but I think they are missing the point. If all you do is troll around and look at other people's work for inspiration you will never find your own way.
The movies, music, random shit I post is all about the world around us - that is where you will find the most inspiration. You just need to be aware of it. Seek it out.
Young creative person: some day - you will have to find your way - "fake it till you make it" will only lead to utter disappointment and dismay. Someday, you will be in a position to run the ship - or come up with your own ideas - not just execute the ideas of others. You must be prepared. You need to find inspiration in everything you see - not just what others do. If you have built your career on aping others creativity - you are fucked.
Anyway, I highly recommend two trips for any young creative person (shelve one or two of those time-wasting ski trips if you can't afford it):
1.) PARIS
2.) LONDON
You will see more creativity in one section of these cities than you will in all of New York. I assure you. It does not matter what field you are in - print, web, etc. The windows of Galeries Lafayette (PARIS HAUSSMANN 40, boulevard Haussmann 75009 PARIS) during Christmas season are worth the trip alone.
You see, I gave you a secret that will help make you a great creative.

Jimi Hendrix.
It is hard to believe this was 40 years ago. Jimi was 400 years ahead of his time. Young creative people must see this and understand what genius is.
Listening to now - June 4, 2008.
Brilliant ambient electronic from one of the early collaborators with Boards of Canada.Perfect with stormy weather (or really good lighting conditions.) ____________________________________________________________________________
Brooklyn to London Telescope
Actually the designer calls it a telectroscope. It is an amazing installation and will be in London and Brooklyn until mid-June 2008. You must see it. There is something simple, cool, smart and very Jules Verne about it.(Foto taken with my LG Shine phone) _________________________________________________________________________
