An interesting interpretation.

pelican.jpgThis is an image of a concept for the world's largest cargo airplane - called the "pelican" by Boeing. It uses the same "technology" as my aforementioned Florida Pelican - called ground effect - which helps give this massive plane lift. The proposed range is 10,000 miles and it has 76 tires to support the weight during landing. This is an impressive concept borne of the pelican - and I am sure if it ever flies it will be an impressive sight.

But really, the more I think about the state of our technology, the more I realize that it is still very primitive. The more we try to replicate nature, the more primitive it seems. My feeling is that there needs to be a quantum leap forward in terms of materials, propulsion and aerodynamics. Think about it, when you are in a commercial jet - you are basically sitting on top of two massive fucking bombs on the wings. Think of Slim Pickens in the movie "Dr. Strangelove." That's about right. Thankfully, the industry has learned how to control the beast of jet propulsion. ___________________________________________________________________________________
