the scapula and those who wear it.
Friends of ours are devout catholics. Very serious. Latin mass and everything. I don't why they do it ... but I love them anyway. In any case, they both wear "scapulas." They are very medieval in the way they are worn. You wear them around your neck, but the icon is on your back - not your chest.
What makes these so interesting to me is the immediate sense of antiquity I feel when I see them. It's like seeing someone wearing a robe and sandals. Dig?Why is the scapula relevant to a modern designer? Besides the cool design - it looks really good on the person. But scratch beneath the surface man.
With regard to design, the complexity of the design and stitching brings home the idea that we move way too fast. In design ...in life. As a designer, it is great to step back and take your time for a change.
Fuck that - it is simply not possible.
Not enough time. How do you trick your mind into thinking you are going to step back and ponder?
